Hello all, Normally I do not comment on ILclass videos related to the padlocks we are producing. I am humbled to see that LockPickingLawyer is taking on our padlocks in his famous ILclass channel. He is really skilled and does a great job keeping us lock manufactures on our toes. However, this time I find it a bit unfair as LPL is actually testing a lock cylinder made by DormaKaba which happens to be installed, probably by a locksmith, in one of our padlocks. A type of padlock without cylinder we sell to locksmiths for them to install certified Scandinavian Oval cylinder in. Even though I find DormaKaba to be a fine company I cannot take credit for nor be responsible for the quality of all their cylinders. I do, however, guarantee that the Swedish manufactured padlock in this video is made to the highest standard and quality. Stay safe and secure! Best regards Tomas Eriksson CEO and Owner ANCHOR LÅS AB SWEDEN

Well, you can easily cut the lock with 12 inch bolt cutters. This is stupid.

Good point..about the cylinder

@Gianluca G. Your logic is completely batty. You have just said the company (the end user) takes the blame for the set up and then switch it to the manufacturer does. Logically, you are saying Microsoft should take responsibility for someone installing software with raging vulnerabilities, but you excuse that (fair) and place the blame on the end user (yes). The same applies to padlocks. The manufacturer is NOT responsible for what someone does with their product. It is on the user to know enough (or employ someone who does) to use it suitably as per their requirements. If their threat model doesn't include picking for whatever reason, that is their problem, not the manufacturer. The cores are standard. If you make them take a bespoke core, you're destroying your market as you can't just swap out cores from a central stockpile. The standards are there for a reason and moving away from them narrows your market. You might as well seal in a core which you deem to be suitable for everyone if you're going down that route. One of the reasons this is sold without a core is to ensure companies aren't paying for a core they're going to immediately remove and replace with their own. Have you ever done a pen test?
Gianluca G.
Gianluca G. יום לפני
@ts757arse I'll give you an analogy: companies shouldn't blame their equipments for their poor IT infrastructure. If I perform a penetration test on a company and the results are poor (i.e. I hack the company IT system), then the company is at fault, not the underlying operating system or any other poor unsecure equipment used by said company. The company put the face and takes the blame. Padlock companies put the face and takes the blame, however cheap and unsecure the installed cylinder is. Yes, the cylinder is installed by other people outside the company... well... my answer is: have control over that, otherwise you risk putting the company in bad light for selling "unsecure padlocks" even though the padlock itself is super strong
ts757arse
ts757arse 2 ימים לפני
@Gianluca G. That depends so much on your threat model. Most threats are destructive. Picking, even low skill raking, just isn't in most threat models. The whole point of products like this is to allow people to install a core befitting the threat being faced. If you think you might be a target of high tech thieves on industrial espionage / covert entry jobs, a technical core is essential. But most of the time, a bump / pick gun resistent core which stops basic bypasses and low skill raking is fine. And the lock isn't the be all and end all, you ideally layer your security so a different set of tools and skills is required to defeat each layer. So you might choose a core based on that. No one should be forced to fit a core to their own lock, suiting someone else's ideals of best practice.

In this day and age, why we're still using a metal object called a key to unlock a security device is just plain silly. Biometrics, NFC and smart chips offer far better resilience than a metal object stuck in a hole.

I wonder, and forgive me for not knowing if you've attempted before, but, if you had (or have) the welding experience or, manufacturing experience I think, even a little bit, could you produce a lock that even you couldn't pick? These ASSA 700 knockoffs are nowhere nearly as tough a pick as the real item. I have two ASSA 700s in my own collection, and even though I know them by heart at this point I can't open either of them in less than 10 minutes. That combination of tapered and "wedding cake" drivers with super crisp edges on the counter-milling in the core makes them bloody unforgiving of even the smallest tension error.

@tsuchan1 Thanks, I have sent him an e-mail explaining this. I have also commented in the 1st level in the comments but given the massive amount of comments I understand that my comment may get lost among the other comments. Yes, the products are individual links in the chain of security. I take responsibility for the "link" we develop and produce but I can hardly to the responsibility for the entire chain. And just as LPL mentions in the video, it is a well built padlock. You realize that once you hold it in your hand. Have a great day!
tsuchan1
tsuchan1 4 ימים לפני
@Thomas Eriksson I think you should post a version of this comment to LPL's e-mail address, on his 'About' page... because I think he'd like to get feedback from the manufacturer, but in a 2nd-level comment among hundreds, I guess he may not read it here. Based on many past LPL videos I've watched, I think there must be an excellent chance that if you post him one of your locks with one of your own cylinders, that he will make a video of it. One salutary lesson I take from your message, is that as businesses we can suffer from what other companies do with our product. Anyway, I really did love the design of your lock, and LPL praised its build quality.
